CUPERTINO, Calif., Jan 24 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ -- Trend Micro Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC; Japan OTC: 4704), a leading provider of Internet virus protection, today announced that its award-winning desktop, server, email and Internet gateway antivirus software products have achieved ICSA certification. Trend Micro's PC-cillin(R) (Win 95/98/NT) consumer desktop antivirus software, OfficeScan(TM) Corporate Edition (Win 95/98/NT) enterprise desktop antivirus software, and ServerProtect(TM) (NT/Netware) file and application server antivirus software products have achieved the new ICSA Cleaning Certification. This fairly recent certification tests a product's ability to not only detect a virus, but also effectively clean the virus from the user's system while leaving files intact. In addition, Trend Micro's InterScan(R) VirusWall(R) antivirus solution for Internet Gateway Email and ScanMail(R) for Exchange antivirus solution for Microsoft Exchange Server are among the first to receive ICSA certification in their respective categories.
"By pursuing and achieving ICSA Cleaning Certification, Internet Email Gateway and Exchange Certification, Trend Micro demonstrates their commitment to providing top-of-the-line virus protection at all levels of the enterprise," said Larry Bridwell, Technology Program Manager for ICSA Labs.
ICSA sets standards for commercial security products and provides independent and objective cross-industry product certification programs. The ICSA Labs Product Certification Program provides objective assurance to the computer user community that those products that receive certification provide and maintain the highest standard of virus detection and reduces security threats associated with Internet use.
"Trend Micro believes that deploying antivirus software with superior virus detection and cleaning at multiple points in the corporate network enables corporations to stop viruses before they have a chance to infect, spread and negatively impact uptime and productivity," said Eva Chen, CTO for Trend Micro. "By combining superior detection with industry-leading central control, configuration and reporting features, Trend Micro solutions provide a multi-layered defense against viruses that significantly reduces administrative overhead and data damage associated with computer viruses."
In order to receive ICSA Cleaning Certification, PC-cillin, OfficeScan and ServerProtect had to both detect and clean 100% of viruses classified as "in the wild." To achieve ICSA Internet Email Gateway Certification, InterScan VirusWall had to detect 100% of "in the wild" viruses and 90% of the ICSA Macro Virus Collection. To achieve Microsoft Exchange Server Certification, ScanMail had to detect 100% of "in the wild" viruses and 100% of the viruses listed in the ICSA Common Infectors Test Suite and Polymorphic Test Suite. ICSA's virus libraries and test suites are updated at least monthly and products are randomly tested every 60 days to assure they are current. Products that fail spot checks from the previous month's library must correct the problem and ship the solution or lose their certification status. The complete criteria for both certifications can be found at http://www.icsa.net/html/communities/antivirus/certification/ .
