Feed The Children Mobilizes Emergency Caravan Across the United States to Help Cities Affected by Economic Crisis

General News Monday March 2, 2009 11:32 —General News

Feed The Children is responding to the plight of Americans distressed by

layoffs occurring all across the nation by dispatching semi

tractor-trailers full of food and personal care items into cities and

towns hardest hit by the economic downturn. The Americans Feeding

Americans Emergency Caravan organized by Feed The Children is focusing

on smaller U.S. cities that have been devastated by job layoffs.

Last week, Feed The Children fed 5,000 families affected by the recent

closing of the DHL Express location in Wilmington, Ohio. On March 10,

the organization will send 13 semi tractor-trailers into Elkhart,

Indiana, feeding 5,200 families. Elkhart County has the highest

unemployment rate in Indiana.

More distributions will occur in cities and towns nationwide. Feed The

Children is currently evaluating the hardest hit areas to help as many

families in need as possible.

“There are so many Americans who have been impacted by the current

economic crisis,” said Larry Jones, founder and president of Feed The

Children. “Feed The Children has been helping children and families for

30 years, and we hope with these deliveries, families will walk away

with renewed hope knowing that someone is there to help them during this

challenging time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families

weathering this storm.”
