Metro Gaisano Philippines , is a private family corporation primarily engaged in the retail business. It owns and operates a chain of department stores and supermarkets popularly known as Metro.
In 1982, Metro Gaisano Philippines opened its first depart store along Colon Street, the oldest street in Cebu City. It is located along P. Lopez Street and Osmena Boulevard, a major thoroughfare. Despite being the toughest retail arena in the nation at the time, it developed a huge following among Cebuanos. Consequently, what started as a three-level building was upgraded to a seven level department store and supermarket after only two years in operation.
Metro Gaisano’s vision is to become a world-class retail store and enjoy the process of attaining it. Its mission is to provide quality environment, quality service, and to be responsive to customers’ needs in the highest current standard. Metro was built firmly on the philosophy of customer centeredness.
Today, Metro Gaisano is known for its comfortable and friendly outlets that offer a wide assortment of fresh and quality products at reasonable prices. Their retail activities typically range from supermarket operations, department store operations, appliances, fine jewelry, pharmacy, fast food outlets, bakeshops, coffee shops, photocopying, framing, embroidery and gift wrapping services.

The company is expanding with additional department stores and supermarkets and therefore, they need to source some products from various countries. The company is satisfied with their Thai Suppliers because of good quality and competitive prices. Hence, the company caters to middle classes and therefore, they need reasonable prices to sell their products.
