3. Information from meeting

On behalf of Nishikawa, Mr. Ogura of Argo Int'l contacted TTC Osaka in December 2010 to seek information about Eri Silk. At that time, Nishikawa wanted to develop new product, silk duvet using Eri Silk. TTC introduced Sharon Thai Silk, President of Thai Silk Association and manufacture and active exporter of silk duvet cover. In March 2011, Mr. Ogura contacted TTC again to ask silk noil (short fiber silk for silk cotton) supplier and TTC introduced Spun Silk World. Since then Nishikawa has been working with Spun Silk World for silk cotton and Sharon Thai Silk for duvet cover.

In early October, Mr. Yajima visited Queen Sirikit Sericulture Center in Udon Thani. He met Mr. Pairoj Limchamroon, Director General, The Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture and Mr. Saridiporn Chuprayoon, Director, Office of Sericulture Conservation and Standard conformity Assessment, and also representatives from Spun Silk World and Sharon Thai Silk, etc. Mr. Pairoj made speech and he expressed government endorsement to the production of Eri Silk in that area. Eri Silk cotton will be imported to Japan, and it has to go through another process to make the cotton soft and fluffy. Nishikawa is planning to introduce Eri Silk duvet made in Thai in early November as a new product. They hope to start selling the product starting next year. Spun Silk estimates they can export Eri silk cotton of 7-10 tons annually. The amount is expected to increase up to 30 tons. From 10 tons cotton, they can produce 1000-2000 duvet depend upon weight of silk cotton filling. Eri Silk duvet will become high-end products and it will need special PR strategy. Currently, they are thinking about brand name of the product.

4. Result of meeting:

For introduction of the new product, Nishikawa would like to display letter from Mr. Pairoj together with logo of Ministry of Agriculture. They also asked if they can use the logo on the tag. TTC advised that Nishikawa should contact The Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture for official permission for use of logo. TTC offered support on PR at TTC website and would invite Nishikawa to promotion activities for Thai products in the future. TTC will visit their show room during the introduction on November 8-10, 2011.
