DEP had lead 15 Thai food exporters to participate in the 17th Iran Food and Hospitality Exhibition which was held from May 30 to June 02, 2010 at the Tehran International Fairgrounds, Iran. Thai exporters have presented a wide range of top quality Thai food products to Iranian market and consumers, i.e. fish and seafood products, vegetables, fruits and dried fruits, frozen food, canned food, bakery products, beverages and drinks - non alcoholic, cooking oil, and Thai rice.

Iranian food market is truly a “blue ocean market for Thailand”, one Thai exporter acclaimed. Despite the fact that Iran is under UN sanction, but with the inhabitants of 66.4 million and being the second largest oil and gas reserves in the world with a strong GDP growth, Iran had become a new market with less competitors for Thai food exporters. The basic strategy is to find a trustable agent in Iran who can facilitate money transfer (i.e. T/T) and able to expand Iranian market through local distributors.

The result from the exhibition is very positive whereby DEP expected more than 10 million USD worth of Thai food export to Iran within a year.
