Disclaimer
While every effort has been made to present an accurate list of bank holidays, legal holidays and
public holidays for Myanmar, we cannot accept any responsibility for any error or omission in the data
presented above. Some of the bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays for Myanmar are based on
calendars whose determination is inherently approximate, as described in the footnotes below, which we
strongly urge you to read. In addition, in many parts of the world, holidays are subject to arbitrary,
last minute, changes by the local authorities and you are therefore advised to verify the above dates
with the embassy or consulate of Myanmar, before planning any trip to Myanmar.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Footnotes
** Bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays based on certain religious calendars are
subject to local variations due to differing interpretations between different religious authorities,
or to seemingly arbitrary changes in the date a holiday is celebrated because it conflicts with another
holiday that is based on another calendar, or because the day of the holiday is deemed inauspicious
(bad luck), To find out more about these uncertainties, see the specific footnote, if any, for each holiday.
(3) When calculating the date of bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays based on
the Hindu Lunar calendar, if the date is expunged (ie. does not occur), then we use the following existing
date of the Hindu Lunar calendar. Local practice concerning expunged days may vary regionally. For more
details on the evaluation of Hindu holidays,
(8) The calculation of lunisolarar bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays for Myanmar
are based on the geographical location of Rangoon (Latitude 16,8ฐN, Longitude 96,2ฐE, GMT+6,5 hours, no
Summer Time rules). Note that many countries in South-East Asia are progressively changing the recurrence
rule of some of their lunar/solar holidays to rules based on fixed dates of the Western (Gregorian) calendar.
Therefore, while the dates predicted above for 2005 and beyond are currently technically correct, the rules
of these holidays may change in the next few years. For more details on lunar and solar holidays, click here.
(a) Holiday does not occur in 2004. Unless this is an Arbitrary holiday (see the Observance column),
this usually happens to bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays that occur around December 31st
or January 1st and are moved forward or backward if they fall on a weekend, or also sometimes to lunisolar
holidays and holidays based on calendars that can have leap months, making some of their years longer than
365 days (for example, the Chinese Lunar, Hindu Lunar and Jewish calendars).
(d) Holiday occurs more than once in 2005.
(e) Bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays that occur on a Saturday may, in Myanmar,
be observed on the previous Friday or the following Monday. The fact that the date displayed above is a
Saturday means, either that there is no reliable official rule concerning holidays that occur on a Saturday,
or that the rule is that these holidays do not move. In either case, individuals and/or businesses may
decide to take the Friday or Monday off regardless of the official national policy.
(f) Bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays that occur on a Sunday may, in Myanmar,
be observed on the following Monday. The fact that the date displayed above is a Sunday means, either
that there is no reliable official rule concerning holidays that occur on a Sunday, or that the rule is
that these holidays do not move. In either case, individuals and/or businesses may decide to take the
Monday off regardless of the official national policy.
