"WON" project and "Recycle Day" launched a partnership to synergize their strengths to enhance community waste management efficiency. This cooperation focuses on developing processes to reduce the tremendous amount of stretchable plastic waste which has been neglected and lacks a proper management process to be able to collect and reuse sustainably according to the principles of the Circular Economy, as well as to reduce environmental problems from the amount of waste that goes to landfill.
Mr. Chanam Chawanich, Chief Executive Officer of Recycle Day Co., Ltd., said "Effective waste management starts with the right mindset towards waste sorting. Therefore, knowledge is considered an important basis for creating better waste management. Both the private and public sectors can work together to promote everyone's knowledge and understanding of the importance of sorting waste before disposal. This makes it easier to collect and distribute them to the right destinations for proper management. This is the same approach that "Recycle Day" and "WON" project apply to managing stretchable plastic waste which we know as food bags, bubble wraps, shrink wraps, packaging films, etc., that are in every home. We can prevent stretchable waste from ending up in landfills by educating everyone that it can be recycled. Which should make everyone want to participate more."
Mr. Saksit Borrisuttanakul, Chief Marketing Officer, TPBI Public Company Limited, added that "There is a tremendous amount of stretchable plastic waste, and it creates a lot of environmental problems today. But it is neglected and gets less attention than other types of plastic waste. The cause is the fact that its sorting process is more difficult than other types of waste. In addition, most people lack the knowledge and understanding to properly sort this type of waste. As a result, waste collection operators do not pay much attention to this type of plastic waste because it has a more difficult sorting process if it is not properly sorted by the consumer at the source. That is why most stretchable plastic waste cannot be brought back to recycle and finally goes to landfills or leaks out to create a bad impact on the environment. The fact that "WON" project had the opportunity to cooperate with "Recycle Day" will help bridge this gap. "Won" project will support providing knowledge of waste sorting to the communities that "Recycle Day" provides services, especially for stretchable plastic waste. This will make it easier for waste collection operators to sort them later. Moreover, "Won" project is also a destination for stretchable plastic waste collected from "Recycle Day", then processes it into the PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) plastic pellets so that they can be reused in various forms in the future."
"Recycle Day" is a comprehensive recycling waste management platform. The service is provided through the Recycle Day application. The starting point of "Recycle Day" was to see the problem of recyclable waste sorting that did not meet the needs of the public. We wanted to make waste sorting something that everyone can do every day. Therefore, we started having cars to collect waste on schedule in some villages in Bangkok first, then recorded waste information and weight in the Recycle Day application, which has been continually developed since then. After that, we expanded business to reach a wider community by having 8 drop point service branches in Bangkok and its vicinity. Sending recycled waste to Recycle Day, you can rest assured that waste is handled 100% correctly and you can get reliable and accurate rates with clear information on the weight of waste sent. - Know more about "Recycle Day" at Facebook: Recycle Day Thailand
"WON" project was initiated by TPBI Public Company Limited in June 2018 with the goal of raising public awareness of stretchable plastic waste management, as well as being a destination for collecting dry and clean stretchable plastic waste from all over the country and bringing it into the recycling and upcycling process so that it can be used again. Currently, "Won" project has more than 400 stretchable plastic waste collection points nationwide and collecting more than 350 tons of stretchable plastic waste, which is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 304 tons of carbon or planting more than 33,800 trees. - Know more about "WON" at www.tpbigroup.com/sustainable-development/won-project or Facebook: wontogether
