Bridgestone Continually Carries on "Bridgestone Road Safety Program" Year 4, Supporting New Generation to Turn Road Safety "Concepts" into "Actions" and Conducting Road Modifications Handover to Saraburi Witthayakhom School
Thai Bridgestone Co., Ltd. has recently collaborated with the Asian Injury Prevention Foundation (AIP Foundation) and other partners to carry on "Bridgestone Road Safety Program Year 4" to promote road safety for young generation, a vital force for the country, while extending its impact to communities to create a sustainable mobility for society in both the present and future. This year, Saraburi Witthayakhom School in Saraburi province has been selected as a pilot school and received support in the form of road safety modification around the school and nearby community areas. Additionally, the students have demonstrated their capabilities by sharing ideas for a sustainable mobility for society through exhibition, putting these concepts into practice. This aligns with Bridgestone's global corporate social responsibility commitment to enhancing road safety worldwide.
The exhibition of a sustainable mobility for society and cover dance showcase from Saraburi Witthayakhom School's studentsMr. Akihito Ishii, Managing Director of Thai Bridgestone Co., Ltd., stated, "As a sustainable solutions company, Bridgestone has always recognized the importance of promoting road safety. The Bridgestone Road Safety project has been continuously implemented for the 4th year. This year, Bridgestone has partnered with four schools: 1.Saraburi Witthayakhom School in Saraburi province 2.Ban Khai School in Rayong province 3.Watkhema Pirataram School, in Nonthaburi province and 4.Visuttharangsi School in Kanchanaburi province to advise the foundation for managing road safety areas, as well as fostering traffic discipline, road safety awareness, and courteous road use beyond the classroom for both teachers and students to practice around the school and the surrounding community. Saraburi Witthayakhom School has been selected as a pilot school to improve and handover road safety modification and traffic conditions around the school and the nearby community using the Star Ratings for Schools system (SR4S) of iRAP. Additionally, the students presented their concepts for a sustainable mobility for society through exhibitions, which will be applied further. Over the past four years, 16 schools and more than 600 students, including 32 Bridgestone Youth Champions, have been enhanced with road safety knowledge that has been extended to their communities sustainably ."
Mr. Akihito Ishii, Managing Director of Thai Bridgestone Co., Ltd.Mr. Wathanapong Pongkijjalert, Saraburi Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Provincial Office stated, "Saraburi Province serves as a gateway between the Central and Northeastern regions and is also crucial to the country's top industrial sectors. This has led to heavy traffic, as well as increased transportation and tourism activities. Additionally, road users often display negligence and lack traffic discipline, which are frequent causes of accidents, resulting in property damage, injuries, and fatalities. I would like to thank Bridgestone, AIP, and all the partners for organizing this project and supporting Saraburi Witthayakhom School to ensure that students and local residents are safer on the roads. This is truly a valuable initiative for society."
Mr. Wathanapong Pongkijjalert, Saraburi Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Provincial OfficeMrs. Mirjam Sidik, Chief Executive Officer of AIP Foundation highlighted the importance and criteria for road safety modification for Saraburi Witthayakhom School under the Bridgestone Road Safety Project Year 4, "Today, we all share a common goal: to create a better, safer, and more sustainable future. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bridgestone, the strong partners in Saraburi province, as well as the teachers and students of Saraburi Witthayakhom School for joining forces in bringing about this positive change. The road safety modification today is based on the assessment results and recommendations from the Star Ratings for Schools system (SR4S) by iRAP, which measures the risk of road use for students commuting to and from school. Therefore, to prevent injuries and fatalities from road accidents involving students, teachers, parents, and the community, we have upgraded the infrastructure by installing traffic signs indicating a reduced speed limit from 45 km/h to 30 km/h, road edge line markings at the entrance gate, curb painting, and repainting the existing traffic lines 400 meters from the school. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically the target to reduce road accidents and fatalities by 50% by 2030. Furthermore, it helps reduce inequality in access to safe and equal education for youth, who are the key to the country's future development."
Mrs. Mirjam Sidik, Chief Executive Officer of AIP FoundationMs. Patinya Khamnuanchai, Deputy Director of Saraburi Witthayakhom School, General Administration added, "I am very pleased that Saraburi Witthayakhom School has been selected as the pilot school for the Bridgestone Road Safety Project Year 4. This opportunity allows students to engage in learning beyond the classroom, interacting with their peers and external experts. It enhances their skills in road safety and encourages them to know how to apply road safety knowledge to their daily lives. Lastly, I would like to thank Bridgestone, AIP, and the partners in Saraburi province for contributing to the success of this meaningful project, and I hope we can continue to drive future initiatives together."
