Foreign Minister visit the Kingdom of Spain

On 6 October 2010, Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, was on the first day of his official visit to the Kingdom of Spain.

Firstly, Foreign Minister met with Mr. Marcio Favilla Lucca de Paula, Executive Director for External Relations and Partnerships, UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), at UNWTO Madrid office. On this occasion, Foreign Minister Kasit gave a briefing on Thailand’s political development and reiterated that the Thai domestic politics has not affected any foreign tourists. The Minister also stated that Thailand wishes to share its experiences and promote more cooperation on sustainable development on tourism with UNWTO, as well as trilateral cooperation with UNWTO to help third countries on their tourism development, in parallel with South-South Cooperation. Mr. Favilla praised Thailand’s success in tourism promotion and expressed UNWTO’s readiness to promote the trilateral cooperation with Thailand as an emerging donor country. He also informed that UNWTO has had cooperation with Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). Both sides also exchanged views on ecotourism and promotion on cultural tourism.

After that, Foreign Minister went to Canal Isabel II Company to have a briefing on water management from the company. Canal Isabel II Company is a public company, which manages and provides water supplies for Madrid, and has vast expertise on water resource management and water recycling with its high technology control system.

In the evening, Foreign Minister Kasit had a meeting with Mr. Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, Minister of Interior Affairs of Spain. Foreign Minister Kasit gave a brief on Thai Ministry of Interior’s structure, and exchanged views with Mr. Rubalcaba on Spanish policy on illegal migration. Spain expressed its readiness to share her experiences on this issue. Both sides also agreed to expedite a Thai proposed agreement on cooperation in anti transnational crimes.

In addition, Foreign Minister Kasit had a dinner with “Team Thailand” in Spain. Foreign Minister Kasit briefed Team Thailand on the Thai foreign policy direction and updated Thailand’s current political situation.
