On 12 October 2010, Mr. Hu Zhengyue, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya. Mr. Hu is currently visiting Thailand under the annual high-level exchange programme between Thailand and China, which is an important mechanism that strengthens relationship and coordination between high-level officials of the two foreign ministries as well as an important forum to exchange views on various issues at the bilateral and multilateral levels.
On this occasion, Mr. Hu expressed satisfaction on the outcome of the meeting with Permanent-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, which both sides have been able to lay down framework to develop relationship on various issues, especially on the progress of the railway connectivity and regular exchanges of high-level officials and representatives between the two countries. Both sides also acquiesced that the bond between Thailand and China is solid and strong, enabling the two sides to discuss and counsel one another. Mr. Hu also expressed China’s gratification and readiness to receive H.R.H Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and other members of the Thai Monarchy to China. He stated that H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s visits to China has enhanced and strengthened the Thai-Chinese relations.
In addition, both sides also discussed ways to enhance people-to-people relations between the two countries. In this regards, both sides agreed to organize an exchange programme for media of both countries as well as strengthen cooperation in the field of education so as to promote tertiary education for students of both countries.
