Foreign Minister meets Cambodian press

On 19 October 2010, Cambodian media paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during their visit to Thailand on 18 — 22 October 2010 as guests of the Ministry. Their visit is a part of the Thai — Cambodian Media Exchange Project, initiated to foster better understanding between Thailand and Cambodia.

Foreign Minister Kasit welcomed the Cambodian media members and expressed his hope that the visit would help better and clearer understanding between the two countries. He also referred that under Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva’s administration, Thailand’s policies towards Cambodia and other neighbouring countries have always been based on the Thai constitution and the Government’s policy statement which was announced by the Thai Prime Minister on 31 December 2008. The Thai Government is committed to strengthen relationship with the neighbouring countries through cooperation and assistance in both bilateral and multilateral forum. Foreign Minister Kasit also reiterated the importance of cultural cooperation which should be enhanced extensively to the publics of both sides based on the shared values and practices. He also hoped that the Thai — Cambodian Media Exchange Project will continue annually.

In addition, the Cambodian media had an opportunity to interview the Foreign Minister regarding the current relationship between Thailand and Cambodia, border issues, and the progresses of the demarcation along the borders. Foreign Minister Kasit clarified all inquiries by reiterating that Thailand has followed international rule of law based on facts and transparency without prejudices. He also confirmed that Thailand has attached importance to the Thai-Cambodian relationship.

As 19 December 2010 will mark the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Cambodia, the Thai Government has launched three projects to commemorate the event namely;

1. The Mobile Medical Unit Support Project

2. The Support Project of the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. the Princess Srinagarindra.

3. Thailand - Cambodian Friendship Association’s donation of medical equipments to public hospitals

in Cambodia.
