The Office of the Narcotics Control Board will organize a Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Cooperation in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Precursor Chemicals Control at the Ministry of Justice, Software Park Building, Chaeng Wattana Road.The Memorandum of Understanding will be signed by H.E. Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga Minister of Justice,on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and Mr. R. Mukhamedov, Director of the National Information — Analytical Centre for Drug Control under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan,on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Signing of the MOU will mark a new page of Thailand and Uzbekistan narcotics control cooperation as it will be an important instrument for the two countries to carry out the mutual cooperation in fighting against the illicit traffic in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and precursors and essential chemicals for producing narcotics.The agreement will also bring more close bilateral relationships between the two countries.
Due to the fact that Uzbekistan shares 137 kilometers common border with Afghanistan, the world major opium producing country, and approximately 3,700 kilometers with other neighboring CIS countries bordering with Afghanistan, the country is severely affected by the trafficking of narcotic drugs as it is as being used as trafficking route to its destinations especially to Europe and China, and as consuming countries for the drugs trafficked from its origin. Meanwhile, Thailand has experienced the smuggling of opiates from the Golden Triangle and the flood of methamphetamine tablet and ICE via northern border rims to its destination and domestic consumption.The similar situation ignites the possible mutual technical cooperation in supply and demand reduction for the benefit of the two countries.
On narcotics control, Thailand presently extends technical cooperation to Uzbekistan in narcotics law enforcement trainings and study visits on narcotics control in Thailand.
