Egyptian Ambassador Calls on Foreign Minister

On 8 November 2010, Mr. Shamel El Sayed Nasser, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Foreign Ministry on the assumption of his duty.

Egyptian Ambassador Nasser expressed his appreciation for hospitality and facilitation during the trip to the Southern Border Provinces this October along with other members of the diplomatic corps, which provided better understandings of the recent development in the area.

Foreign Minister Kasit stated that Thailand attached importance to the cordial relations between Thailand and Egypt and expressed his intention to strengthen the relations through bilateral consultations, exchange of visits, trade promotion and scholarship offered to Thai students to pursue religious studies in Egyptian universities. Moreover, both the Thai Foreign Minister and the Egyptian Ambassador agreed that Egypt could be the linkage between Thailand and the Middle East as well as the Islamic world.

The Foreign Minister briefed the result of the 17th ASEAN Summit in October, held in Hanoi, Vietnam and emphasized the important role of ASEAN in Asia. In addition, both sides also exchanged views on the situation in Middle East and Africa.
