Diplomatic corps’ visit to the King’s Royal Project in Nakhon Nayok

On 19 November 2010, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya led the members of diplomatic corps to visit the Bhumirak Dhamachart Project — the Royal Nature Conservation Center and Khun Dan Prakarnchol Dam in Nakhon Nayok Province. The visit is part of the Foreign Ministry’s activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King’s accession to the throne and his birthday.

The diplomatic corps included members from 17 countries, namely, Slovak, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Cuba, Brunei Darussalam, Bhutan, Italy, Switzerland, Finland, Israel, Democratic People Republic of Korea, Panama, Russia, Viet Nam, Romania, Morocco, and Nauru. The first visit was at the the Bhumirak Dhamachart Project — the Royal Nature Conservation Center, which is the exhibition center for natural resource management to portray the development concepts and theories of His Majesty the King. The diplomatic corps were greeted by Mr. Suttipong Juljarern, Governor of Nakhon Nayok Province, and Mr. Panya Puliwekin, Head of the Center, who later gave a briefing on the King’s initiatives on natural resource management. The diplomatic corps also experienced the outdoor demonstration farm which exhibited ways of life in different regions of Thailand, covering areas of agriculture, natural resource management, environment, livestock, energy, and Thai way of life.

In the afternoon, the diplomatic corps visited Khun Dan Prakarnchol Dam, which was built under His Majesty the King’s initiative to alleviate the flooding, to conserve water for agriculture and consumption, as well as to ease the water shortage and acid soil which are main problems for farmers.

This diplomatic corps’ study visit is one of the Foreign Ministry’s activities aiming to provide the international community with an opportunity to learn more about His Majesty the King’s concept of sufficiency economy that has been put in practice to alleviate the problems faced by Thai farmers. At present, the concept of sufficiency economy is recognized by the international community as a way to relieve the scarcity of humanity and to promote the sustainable development.
