The US Secretary of the Navy paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister

On 22 November 2010 at the Ministry, Mr. Ray Mabus, the US Secretary of the Navy paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya on the occasion of his visit to Thailand, as part of his first official visit to the region as the US Secretary of the Navy.

Foreign Minister and Mr. Mabus exchanges views and ways to improve cooperation under both bilateral and multilateral (ASEAN) framework which includes many areas such as defense and security cooperation, humanitarian assistance to those affected by natural disasters, combating maritime piracy, exchanges of military education and cooperation on alternative energy. They also discussed other regional and global issues.

Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation to the US Government ‘s active role and cooperation given to the South East Asian region. Mr. Mabus also expressed his appreciation to Thailand’s continued supports and partnership. He also stressed that the US is willing to enhance cooperation under relevant frameworks, especially the yearly Cobra Gold military exercise.
