Statement on the Situation in Bahrain

World News Wednesday March 23, 2011 15:12 —Ministry of Foreign Affairs

As a good friend of Bahrain and its people, Thailand has been closely following recent developments in Bahrain and, in this connection, welcomes the continued improvement of the overall situation and steps taken to bring about a quick return to normalcy there.

Thailand reiterates its earlier statement on 26 February 2011 welcoming the National Dialogue initiated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, as the best way forward for the national reconciliation and reform process. We encourage all parties in Bahrain to continue with their efforts towards this end. We are confident that Bahrain will be able to emerge stronger as a nation and play an even more constructive role for the common interest of the international community.

At the same time, Thailand appreciates the earnest effort taken by the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain to ensure safety and security of foreign nationals in the country and welcomes its firm commitment to continue to do its utmost in this regard.
