Newly Appointed Portuguese Ambassador to Thailand calls on ForeignMinister

On 24 March 2011, Dr. Jorge Torres-Pereira, Portuguese Ambassador to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, at the Foreign Ministry on the occasion of his new assignment in Thailand.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Kasit welcomed Ambassador Torres-Pereira to Thailand. Ambassador Torres-Pereira, in turn, expressed his appreciation to the Foreign Minister and congratulated him on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Portugal this year. In this regard, both countries have arranged various activities to celebrate this event throughout the year. A reception to commemorate the anniversary and to introduce the activities will also be held on 11 May 2011 at Vithes Samosorn Hall, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Torres-Pereira mentioned that the Portuguese Embassy in Bangkok will bring a Portuguese folklore group from Malacca, Malaysia to perform at the event. Meanwhile, Thailand has also built a Thai Pavilion (Sala Thai), which will ultimately be brought to Lisbon as a symbol of the long and friendly relations between the two countries.
