British Ambassador praised Thai authorities for quick assistance to foreign tourists affected by the recent Southern Thailand flood

The Ambassador of the United Kingdom praised Thai authorities for quick assistance to foreign tourists affected by the recent flood in Southern Thailand, whilst affirming the British government’s readiness to help Thailand in handling the situation.

On 31 March 2011, 10.00 hours, Mr. Asif Anwar Ahmad paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of his appointment as the Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Thailand. During the ensuing discussion, Ambassador Ahmad expressed his condolences for victims of the recent flood-hit Southern Thailand. He also praised the Thai authorities for their timely assistance to British tourists as well as to other nationals affected by the flood and reaffirmed readiness to provide assistance to Thailand regarding disaster relief.

During the courtesy call, both sides also discussed issues of common interest such as trade with the United Kingdom and the facilitation on the movement of people between the two countries to foster closer relations. Foreign Minister Kasit viewed that Thailand could learn best-practices from the United Kingdom in various fields, especially in the improvement of coordination among government agencies. In addition, both sides also exchanged views on international issues and development of the Southeast Asian region, which were issues of mutual interest.
