Special Informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on East Asia Summit, 11 April 2011, Bangkok, Thailand

On 11 April 2011, ASEAN Foreign Ministers will participate in the Special Informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on East Asia Summit (EAS) in Bangkok, Thailand, to discuss strategic issues for ASEAN such as the future of the EAS after expansion to include Russia and the United States—as the expansion naturally affects the evolving regional architecture, how to maintain ASEAN centrality, how ASEAN can best utilize the EAS as a premier forum to raise ASEAN’s profile and contribution in the global arena, and how to ensure that the EAS can respond to the current and emerging challenges the region is facing.

During the meeting, Foreign Ministers will also exchange views on Regional and International Issues, and other matters such as the preparation for the 18th ASEAN Summit in Jakarta on 7 — 8 May 2011 and the dates for the 19th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Bali.
