The Thai Garden, designed by Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand in cooperation with the Horticultural Society of Thailand, won 2nd place (or Special Honour Award) at the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition, held from 6 November 2010 — 25 April 2011 in Taipei. The garden was also voted the 3rd most popular display at the said Exposition.
The garden, under the theme “The Serenity in the Amazing Thai Garden” is a 500 square meter garden featuring a Thai pavilion (or Sala Thai), as well as Thai plants and flowers trimmed to replicate the standing Buddha, an elephant and the Royal Barge Suphannahong. Also available in the garden were activities organized by the Team Thailand in Taiwan, led by the Thailand Trade and Economic Office, which included the traditional Thai dance, Thai boxing, Thai puppet performance and trivia about Thailand. In this regard, the garden attracted widespread interest with over 8.9 million visitors visiting the Exposition.
On this occasion, Mr. Wiboon Khusakul, Executive Director of Thailand Trade and Economic Office, together with the representatives from Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand and the Horticultural Society of Thailand, handed over the Thai Garden to Taipei City Government in order to further enhance relations between the people of Thailand and Taiwan, as well as to congratulate the organizers for the success of the Exposition. Executive Director Khusakul also presented a model of the Royal Barge Suphannahong, which acted as the symbol of the Thai garden, to Mr. Ting Hsi Yung, Executive Producer of the Exposition.
In this competition, apart from the Thai Garden, first place went to Taiwan, third place went to the Netherlands , fourth place went to Japan and Singapore, and fifth place went to Japan and Hungary.
