On 13 July 2011, a patrol unit consisting of officers from the army, police and the Royal Forest Department went scouting in the area north of Pra Palai Pass, Sisaket Province and came across an armed group of illegal loggers. The patrol unit confronted the said group with a view to searching and interrogating them. However, the latter fired gunshots which prompted the patrol unit to fire back in self defence. After the situation calmed down, the patrol unit moved in to examine the area and found an injured Cambodian who was shot in the left side of his waist. He was then taken to a hospital for treatment.

The authorities are now in possession of various evidence, including pieces of Siamese rosewood, AK-47 cartridges and logging equipment, and the case will proceed in accordance with the legal procedures.
