Promoting Thai — Vietnam Understanding through the Thai — Vietnamese Youth Exchange Programme

On 25 June 2011, Mr. Pisanu Chanvitan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, precised over the closing ceremony of Thai — Vietnamese Youth Exchange Programme 2011 at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Programme was held from 11 — 25 July 2011 by the collaborative effort between Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, the Royal Thai Embassy in Hanoi and the Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior of Thailand. The programme for this year is significant as Thailand and Vietnam are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

In the closing remarks, Mr. Pisanu said that the programme is a good way to promote friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries. It opens the opportunity for Vietnamese youths to experience and absorb Thai culture and society, and also learn how to adapt themselves in foreign countries. Meanwhile, Thai youths could use this opportunity to learn about Vietnamese way of life.

For this year’s programme, 13 youths and 2 guardians from both sides participated activities in the Northeastern Provinces of Thailand to promote learning and cultural exchanges with Thai youth as a partner. The youths stayed with Thai host families and participate in various activities such as field trips, volunteering activities and community development.

The programme has been held for 3 consecutive years since it was first established in 2009, with the objectives of promoting understandings between Thai and Vietnamese youths and opening up the opportunity to experience culture and society in both countries. Besides, the participants will learn teamwork skills and participating in community activities and field trips.
