Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to a Press Release of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to Thailand

World News Thursday July 28, 2011 11:56 —Ministry of Foreign Affairs

With reference to a Press Release of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to Thailand dated 22 July 2011 calling on the Royal Thai Government to pay compensation to Walter Bau AG (in liquidation), which referred to the impounding of the Royal aircraft that is personally owned by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn,

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to reiterate once again that the dispute between the Royal Thai Government and Walter Bau AG (in liquidation) is strictly a dispute between the State and a private investor. The Office of the Attorney-General is the agency responsible for the case on behalf of the Royal Thai Government. Such dispute has no connection in any aspect with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and His Royal Highness’ personal assets. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince is not a party to the dispute, and neither is the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further wishes to state that the Thai side has notified the above fact to the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany at all levels from the beginning. The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany should already be fully aware of this fact. Therefore, the Royal Thai Government is disappointed with the position and action of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany as shown in the issuance of the said Press Release by the German Embassy in Thailand, which continued to unnecessarily and inappropriately refer to the impounding of the Royal aircraft that is personally owned by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to reiterate its determination to preserve and uphold the Royal honour of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, and that the Ministry is pursuing every possible way to ensure that the case relating to the impounding of the Royal aircraft is brought to an end in an expeditious and just manner.
