On 4 August 2011, Ambassador of Madagascar to Thailand met with the Foreign Minister on the occasion of the completion of his duties. The two sides discussed future areas of cooperation which could include investment and manufacturing activities as well as increased political cooperation.
Mr. Jimmy Ramiandrison, Ambassador of Madagascar to Thailand, resident in Tokyo, expressed his appreciation to Thailand through Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, for Thailand’s support and cooperation during his term. He also noted that relations between Thailand and Madagascar were excellent, particularly with regards to investment as Thai companies are active in the mining sector business.
The Foreign Minister suggested that Thailand and Madagascar might focus on mutually beneficial activities, and noted that since Thailand is successfully investing in and exporting to Madagascar, more balance may be needed in this regard. One of the ways to improve the balance might be to promote Madagascar tourism in Thailand, especially since Thais were becoming more adventurous in choosing their tourist destinations. Apart from increased cooperation in tourism, cooperation in agricultural development would benefit both sides, particularly as rice is in strong demand in Madagascar and Thailand is one of the world’s major exporters of rice.
Both sides also agreed that more political contact, particularly at a high level as well as between political parties, would benefit cooperation between Thailand and Madagascar in the future.
