US President congratulates Thai Prime Minister

Today (15 August 2011) Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, gave a press conference regarding the US President’s congratulations to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on her assumption of the premiership as follows :

On 11 August 2011, President Barack Obama sent a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. In his message, the President looks forward to deepening the strong bond and close partnership between Thailand and the United States, as two free democratic countries sharing common values and mutual respect. President Obama also stressed that the enduring friendship and alliance with Thailand were deeply valued and the United States looks forward to working together in partnership with Thailand towards peaceful, prosperous and free world.

Furthermore, on 13 August 2011, at approximately 22.00 hrs., President Obama called Prime Minister Shinawatra, to congratulate her on the assumption of the premiership. The two leaders underscored the enduring nature of the Thai-US friendship and bilateral relationship. They expressed commitment to work together to ensure peace and stability in the Asia Pacific.
