On 29 July 2011 the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Embassy of Canada and the Thai-Canadian Chamber of Commerce (TCCC) held a Seminar on the 50th Anniversary of Thai-Canadian Relations at the Language Institute, Chiang Mai University. Assistant Professor Nat Vorayos, Vice President for Research and Academic Services, Mr. Chirachai Punkrasin, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs and H.E. Mr. Ron Hoffmann, Canadian Ambassador to Thailand, presided over the opening ceremony.
Seminar participants included students, faculty and staff at Chiang Mai University as well as Buddhists monks who were studying at the Master’s and Doctoral level at Mahachulalongkorn University, Chiang Mai Campus. Prizes which included T-shirts and mugs with the 50th Anniversary logo made by the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs and the Embassy of Canada, caps and Jelly Beans which were sponsored by the TCCC, were given to seminar participants who answered the trivia quiz throughout the day.
The Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs presented a BlackBerry Torch sponsored by Research In Motion (RIM) to Miss Patsorn Janeprasertsilp, a second year Political Science student, Chiang Mai University.
The Thai-Canadian relations will mark its 50th anniversary on 8 November this year.
