On 3 November 2011, Mr. Abdul Samad Samad, Ambassador of Afghanistan to Thailand, resident in Malaysia, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, during which the Ambassador congratulated the Foreign Minister upon his assumption of duty and expressed his readiness to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially in the areas of people-to-people contact and trade and investment.

Furthermore, the Ambassador informed the Foreign Minister of recent developments in Afghanistan and requested assistance for Afghan students, especially in the areas of capacity building, training and scholarships so that those Afghan students would be able to continue their studies in Thailand, similar to the Afghan Government’s cooperation with Malaysia and Australia.

Foreign Minister Surapong congratulated the Ambassador upon his assumption of duty and expressed Thailand’s readiness to further enhance cooperation with Afghanistan. Thailand supported the ongoing national reconciliation process of the Government of Afghanistan. Moreover, the Foreign Minister was pleased with the successful visit of the Thai medical team to Afghanistan in September 2011, which had presented vaccines and organized a workshop on maternal and child health care as well as family planning for the relevant public health agencies of Afghanistan.
