During 28-29 November 2011, Mr. K Shanmugam, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law of Singapore will pay an official visit to Thailand to officially introduce himself after taking office and to strengthen bilateral relations as well as to discuss bilateral and regional issues of mutual interests.
During the visit, Mr. K Shanmugam is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Privy Councillors, namely, General Surayud Chulanont, and Air Chief Marshal Siddhi Savetsila, as well as meet with Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul.
The meeting between the two Foreign Ministers will highlight the cooperation through existing bilateral mechanism such as the Civil Service Exchange Program (CSEP) to support ASEAN integration and community building. Furthermore, Foreign Minister Surapong will take this opportunity to thank the Government and people of Singapore for its financial contribution and assistance from the Government of Singapore to help the flood victims in Thailand.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 20 September 1965, Thailand and Singapore have developed close bilateral relations at all levels and in all aspects, with regular exchanges of high level visits, as well as close cooperation within the framework of ASEAN and other international foras.
The visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law of Singapore reflects Singapore’s confidence in the Thai economy and the post-flood reconstruction and rehabilitation.
