On 9 November 2011, Mr. Suvat Chirapant, Thai Ambassador to Mexico, on behalf of the Thai Government and the Thai people, provided financial assistance to the Haitian Government, for the amount of 964,594.25 US dollars through Mr. Laurent Lamothe, Haitian Foreign Minister. Furthermore, the Thai Ambassador also paid courtesy call to Mr. Clarke Chevalier, Advisor to the Haitian President, Mr. Herbert Docteur, Haitian Minister for Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, Mr. Wilson Laleau, Haitian Minister of Commerce, Mr. Herve Denis, President of the Haitian Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Guy G. Lamonthe, Director General of Bureau for Investment Promotion.
In the discussion with Mr. Laurent Lamonthe, the Thai Ambassador informed the Haitian Foreign Minister of the purpose of his visit which was to present financial contribution towards the earthquake relief efforts to the Haitian Government since the earthquakes. The Thai Government has also provided assistance in emergency food and medical supplies. In response, the Haitian Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for the support from the Thai Government and the Thai people, and interest in inviting the investors from Thailand in the area of poultry and shrimp.
The Ambassador also held bilateral talk with Mr. Clark Chevalier, Advisor to the President of Haiti who also expressed interest in learning from Thailand’s poultry industry by encouraging investment from Thailand in the areas of rice and shrimp farming and academic assistance in rice farming and fishery.
In the discussion with Mr.Hubert Docteur, the Haitian Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development conveyed Haiti’s interest in the construction of deepwater ports and shrimp farming industry and in the discussion with Mr. Wilson Laleau, Haitian Minister of Commerce, Mr. Laleau expressed interest in increasing investment from Thailand in various agricultural sectors and presented information to the Thai Ambassador regarding Haiti’s country facts, basicinfrastructure and the advantages of investment in Haiti.
The Ambassador also held discussions with Mr. Herve Denis, President of Haiti Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Guy G. Lamonthe, Director General of Bureau for Investment Promotion in the areas of importing business and fishery in order to survey market and investment opportunities. Moreover, the Thai Ambassador also met with Thai police stationed in UN MINUSTAH.
