His Majesty the King of Bhutan graciously gives the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha Kassapa to be exhibited temporarily in Thailand on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 5th December 2011
On 21 November 2011 while Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was in audience with His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of the Kingdom of Bhutan, His Majesty expressed the wish to exhibit the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha Kassapa in Thailand for the health and long life of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the Royal Family, on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 5th December 2011, and for the peace and well-being of those families who were affected by the flood situation in Thailand.
The Office of National Buddhism of Thailand was instructed by the Prime Minister to proceed with the organizing the exhibition in accordance with the wishes of His Majesty the King of Bhutan. On 2 December 2011, Dr Surawit Khonsomboon, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, along with an official high level delegation from the Kingdom of Bhutan, accompanied the Sacred Relics from Bhutan to Thailand. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra presided over the inauguration and religious ceremony at 16.30 hrs on Saturday 3 December at the Sanam Luang ceremonial grounds. The Sacred Relics is open to the public for worship for approximately 3 weeks.
