On 9 January 2012, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized an art contest for elementary school children aged between 7-13 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in preparation for the International Children’s Peace Art Festival in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
The International Children’s Peace Art Festival is a sideline activity of the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit, to be held between 26-27 March 2012 in Seoul, Republic of Korea, with the aim of stimulating understanding about the Nuclear Security Summit Meeting, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The event will exhibit 2 paintings from each country participating in the Summit. Given the high-level international profile of the Art Festival, Thailand’s participation is an excellent opportunity to display the artistic abilities of Thai Youth in the international arena.
The Selection Committee, comprising representatives from the Department of International Organizations, Department of Information, professors of art and media representatives (ThaiPBS) awarded the first prize to paintings by both Ms. Patcharida Pharasen of Bankrathin School, Nakorn Ratchasima, and Mr. Natchanon Ongsiriporn of Asokewit Onnuj School, Bangkok. Their paintings have also been selected to be displayed at the International Children’s Peace Art Festival. In addition, they also received scholarships valued at 5,000 Baht from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commemorate their achievements.
As a result of the contest, all youth participants have been able to increase their knowledge of peacekeeping, and the promotion of the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
