Security measures increased in response to possible terrorist threat

On 13 January 2012, Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Director-General of the Information Department and Foreign Ministry Spokesman, responded to media enquiries about reports that the U.S. Embassy in Thailand had issued a travel alert about a possible terrorist threat in Bangkok.

The Foreign Ministry Spokesman said that the Thai Government is also aware about such a possible threat and that the authorities concerned have been in close co-ordination with each other as well as with relevant countries. In this regard, security measures have been increased as a precaution to prevent any incident that may occur. The authorities will continue to remain vigilant and monitor the situation closely.

Regarding security arrangements for diplomatic missions and international organisations, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman said that the Thai Government attaches great importance to the security of diplomatic missions and international organisations and has been in close co-ordination with the agencies concerned to ensure adequate protection for such missions.
