On 23 January 2011, Mr. Tshering Dorji, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan to Thailand, paid a farewell courtesy call on Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul on his completion of tenure in Thailand. Both sides stressed the close relations between the two countries at all levels, especially the cordial relations between the Royal families of both countries. Ambassador Tshering reaffirmed that he will continue to enhance the Thai-Bhutanese relations upon his return back home.

Foreign Minister Surapong took the opportunity to convey his gratitude to His Majesty the King of Bhutan, who graciously allowed the Sacred Tooth Relic to be temporarily exhibited in Thailand on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s 7th Birthday Anniversary Cycle, bringing peace and well-being to those families affected by the tragic floods. Over 200,000 people, both in Bangkok and in Chiang Mai, have made a pilgrimage to the Holy Relic.

Ambassador Tshering also expressed appreciation to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s training projects on “Children’s Health and Nutrition Management,” which has been implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of Bhutan. He also thanked the Thai Government for increasing the number of training courses and scholarships to Bhutanese students in various fields and subjects.
