Nigerian Ambassador bids farewell to Foreign Minister

On 7 February 2012, Mr. Umaru Azores Sulaiman, Ambassador of Nigeria to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul to bid farewell as he completes his tenure in Thailand.

In this regard, Foreign Minister Surapong congratulated the Ambassador’s hardwork in fostering Thai - Nigerian relations at all levels, including trade, investment and development cooperation. Presently, Nigeria is Thailand’s second largest trading partner in Africa, as well as the largest importer of Thai parboiled rice. Thai private sectors have also started to invest in Nigeria. On this occasion, Foreign Minister Surapong also took the opportunity to express condolences from the Government and peoples of Thailand to the Government and peoples of Nigeria for the attack in north-eastern Kano City.

The Ambassador, in turn, expressed his appreciation, particularly for the close and cordial ties between Thailand and Nigeria. He informed that Nigeria has potentials in the rice production and jewelry sectors, and wished to invite more Thai companies to explore the possibility to invest in Nigeria, particularly in the above-mentioned sectors.
