Singaporean Ambassador bids farewell to Foreign Minister

On 2 March 2012, Mr. Peter Chan, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul to bid farewell as he completes his tenure in Thailand. Foreign Minister Surapong expressed appreciation Ambassador Chan for promoting and strengthening the relations between Thailand and Singapore during the past 6 years as well as his active role as Dean of Diplomatic Corps. Ambassador Chan, in turn, thanked the Royal Thai Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand for the cooperation extended to Singapore in all areas, especially in coordinating high level to Embassy of Singapore.

          Both sides agreed to convene the 11th Civil Service Exchange Program (CSEP) and the 3rd Singapore Thailand Enhanced Economic Relationship (STTER) in Singapore and the 6th Thailand - Singapore Exchange Program (TSEP) in Thailand this year. In addition, the Foreign Minister also pointed out that the emerging of ASEAN Community received lots of interest from western countries especially in trade and investment area. Ambassador Chan also agreed that Thailand is situated        in the heart land Southeast Asia and the center to the Asia Pacific region. As a result, both side agreed to support and enhancing cooperation between each other in particular the ASEAN Connectivity.

In addition, the Foreign Minister wishes to pay an official visit to Singapore to further strengthen bilateral relations in all areas as well as follows up the outcome of the Thai Prime Minister’s visit on 8 December 2011.
