Thailand’s preparations in hosting the World Economic Forum on East Asia

On 12 March 2012, Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul gave a press interview after charing the 2nd Meeting of the Sub-Committee on the Administrative Matters for the Preparation of World Economic Forum on East Asia in Thailand at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The said meeting was attended by relevant authorities from the Secretariat to the Prime Minister, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Ministry of Finance and the National Economic and Social Development Board as well as private sector to discuss details on matters such as substance of the meeting, invitation, welcome procedure, public relations, security as well as other paralleled activities.

The Foreign Minister said that the Prime Minister attaches great importance to host this Meeting since it would be a good opportunity to boost global business leaders’ confidence in Thailand and ASEAN’s economic potential, as well as to give visitors a good impression on various dimensions of Thailand.

In this connection, Foreign Minister Surapong emphasized Thailand’s readiness to host such important meeting, with the expectation of attendance of more than 400 business leaders around the world as well as the interested Thai businessmen. The public outreach program of this meeting will be publicized through both local and international media.
