Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra Underlined Importance of Thai and Japanese Business Sectors as Main Engine for Closer Economic Cooperation

The Royal Thai Government, in cooperation with The Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), held a business networking session titled “Strengthening Thailand — Japan Business Partnership” on 7 March 2012, at Imperial Hotel, Tokyo. The session was held during H.E. Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand’s Official Working Visit to Japan between 6 — 9 March 2012. Following Mr. Tadashi Okamura, Chairman of JCCI’s welcoming remarks, H.E. Prime Minister delivered opening remarks underlining the importance of Thai and Japanese business sectors as the main engine for closer economic cooperation.

The session was subsequently divided into seven small discussion groups by sector: autoparts, electrical and electronic appliances and parts, agriculture and food, tourism, petrochemical, construction, and retail business. Business representatives from Thailand include those who have successfully gained access to the Japanese market; and those with trade and investment potentials to conduct business with Japan. This event was aimed at creating new business opportunities and networks for Thai — Japanese business community. Thirty-one Thai business representatives accompanied the Prime Minister’s visit to Japan.

At the opening ceremony, Prime Minister emphasized the crucial role of the Thai and Japanese business community in strengthening bilateral economic relations. She also expressed confidence that this business networking session would provide an opportunity to achieve concrete results and forge closer economic alliance between Thailand and Japan.

Approximately 200 Japanese business representatives attended the networking session. Such number of Japanese business representatives participated in the session reflected Japan’s continued interest in enhancing business cooperation opportunities with Thailand.
