Official Visit of the Prime Minister of Canada to the Kingdom of Thailand 22-24 March 2012

The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, will pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand between 22-24 March 2012 at the invitation of H.E. Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. The visit marks the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Canada.

The welcoming ceremony will be held on 23 March 2012 at the Government House, followed by a bilateral discussion with H.E. Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra. The topics of discussion will include various issues of mutual interest, including trade and investment, energy, education, security cooperation as well as ASEAN-Canada cooperation. H.E. Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra will host lunch in honour of Prime Minister Harper at Santi Maitri Building.

The Official Visit of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper commemorates the 50th Anniversary of Thai-Canadian diplomatic relations and reaffirms the long-lasting and cordial relations between the two countries. Thailand, as the Country Coordinator of ASEAN-Canada relations during 2009-2012, will also take this opportunity to highlight the auspicious occasion of the 35th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Canada dialogue relations this year. This Official Visit therefore provides an opportunity for both sides to deepen existing cooperation and explore other areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two countries and their peoples. The Visit also signifies the importance Canada attaches to Thailand and ASEAN.
