Meeting between Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and the Thai Private Sector in Seoul

On March 26th, 2012, during her official visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK), Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Commerce, Minister of Industry, Ministers Attached to the Prime Minister?s Office, and representatives from the relevant agencies met with the delegation of participating Thai private sector for an exchange of views during a working breakfast.

The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of the private sector as a key player in efforts to striving towards a strategic partnership to enhance economic cooperation especially in trade, investment and tourism, between Thailand and the Republic of Korea.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of following up upon the issues discussed during her meeting with Mr. Lee Myung-bak, President of the Republic of Korea. These issues include promoting the volume of bilateral trade with the target of 30 billion USD in the next five years, Thailand?s request for the lifting of the import ban on frozen, fresh chicken from Thailand and enhancing bilateral investment as well as cooperation and exchange of best practices in water management and flood prevention.

The Prime Minister took the opportunity to exchange views and experiences with the private sector on various trade issues between Thailand and the Republic of Korea as well as other relevant issues of interest, as views and comments from the private sector will be useful for the Thai authorities.

Members of the private sector participating in the working breakfast comprised 31 leading business executives from seven sectors, namely: autoparts, food and agriculture, tourism, cosmetic surgery/medical service, entertainment, water management and energy.

Following the working breakfast, the private sector also took part in the investment seminar on ?Unbeatable Thailand, Unparalleled Opportunities: Business Environment and Investment Policies? and the luncheon with their Korean counterparts as well as participated in the business networking event organized with Korean business representatives in their respective sectors.
