On Monday, 2 April 2012, Mr. Surapong Tovichakchaikul, Minister of Foreign Affairs, during his visit to Phnom Penh to attend the ASEAN Ministerial Meetings prior to the 20th ASEAN Summit, met Dr. R. M. Marty M. Natalegawa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, to discuss bilateral cooperation as well as developments regarding the Thai-Cambodian border issue.

On bilateral matters, both sides expressed the hope that the 8th Joint Commission Meeting could be held in Thailand in June 2012 to follow up on issues raised during Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s visit to Indonesia last year, including the issues on maritime boundaries, transnational crimes, as well as food security, especially those concerning rice and fisheries.

With regard to the Thai-Cambodian border issue, Foreign Minister Surapong informed his Indonesian counterpart of the positive developments made, particularly given the exchange of visits and dialogues held by both sides at all levels. In this connection, the first Joint Working Group Meeting between Thailand and Cambodia would take place in Bangkok during 3 - 5 April 2012 to discuss cooperation between the armed forces of both countries to promote peace and security along the common border, the results of which would contribute towards the further improvement of the overall border situation.
