Prime Minister meets with the Thai Business Sector

On 18 April 2012, during her official visit to China, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and relevant ministers, had a breakfast meeting with the Thai business sector at the Diao Yu Tai State Guesthouse. The delegation comprised 110 people from major business/industrial associations and companies from various sectors, such as food and agriculture, construction, real estate, industrial estate, logistics, tourism, energy, telecommunications, media and entertainment, finance, auto parts, electrical and electronic appliances, health and medical services, and retails.

The Prime Minister highlighted the purpose of this visit that is to deepen further the strategic partnership between Thailand and China which, according to Prime Minister, sets target for annual increaser in the volume of bilateral trade, investment and tourism between Thailand and China by 20%, 15%, and 20%, respectively, in the next five years.

In addition, the Prime Minister took the opportunity to exchange views with the private sector on various trade and investment issues between Thailand and China. These include the export promotion of agricultural products, the investment promotion in China, Thailand branding, and tourism marketing through media and entertainment networks, as well as the public and private partnership to enhance Thailand’s competitiveness in the world market and to reap the benefits of the ASEAN Economic Community.

Following the Working Breakfast, the private sector took part in the investment seminar on “Unbeatable Thailand, Unparalleled Opportunities: Business Environment and Investment Policies” at the China World Summit Wing Hotel. On this occasion, the Prime Minister delivered a speech on the overall picture of Thailand as well as measures that the government has undertaken to promote, among others, trade, investment and infrastructure development, which serve to enhance investor confidence in Thailand. In this regard, Thailand welcomes the business sector, investors, and the people of China to Thailand.

In the afternoon, the delegates of the Thai private sector participated in the business matching session with their Chinese counterparts of more than 120 companies. The session was successfully concluded with deals and interests between them. Several companies expressed their interest in investing in industrial estates in Thailand, while others were keen to discuss further their businesses potential.

To facilitate the participation of the delegation of the private sector in the Prime Minister’s overseas trips, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been assigned as the coordinating agency and has been working closely with business organizations.
