Celebration of the 20 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and Uzbekistan

Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, together with Mrs. Sukumol Kunplome, Minister of Culture, and Mr. Bakhtier Sayfullayev, First Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan, attended a reception organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Thailand and the Consulate-General of the Republic of Ubekistan, at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Tuesday, 8 May 2012; to celebrate the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Establishment of the diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of Uzbekistan. The Agreement on Cooperation on the fields of Culture and Sports between the two countries was signed on 8 May 2012.

A famous cultural troupe from Uzbekistan was invited by the Ministry of Culture of Thailand to perform at the reception. The Uzbek cultural troupe will also perform at Pattaya City on 9 May 2012 and at Wang Nah Theatre on 10 May 2012.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Moscow, which is accredited to Uzbekistan, will organize a Thai Festival in Tashkent during 15 - 30 May 2012 to celebrate this occasion. There will be cultural and Thai food presentation and Muay Thai demonstration, which is a popular sport among Uzbek people.

Thailand established diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan on 6 May 1992. The relations between the two countries have always been cordial and cooperative, and has expanded in many areas of mutual interests.
