Mr. Surapong Tovichakchaikul, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is scheduled to pay a visit to the United States of America at the invitation of Mrs. Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State of the United States of America. In this connection, he will lead the Thai delegation to attend the 4th Thai — US Strategic Dialogue in Washington D.C. from 11 — 14 June 2012 and will thereafter travel to Los Angeles from 15-16 June 2012 to launch the issuing of Thai Identity Cards to Thai citizens residing abroad.
In Washington D.C., Foreign Minister Surapong will meet with Secretary Clinton on 13 June 2012. On the same day, Foreign Minister Surapong will also meet with Senators who play an important role in shaping US foreign policy, as well as leading businessmen from the U.S. — ASEAN Business Council (USABC) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce (USCC), whereby he will use this opportunity to elaborate on the current political and economic situation in Thailand. Foreign Minister Surapong is also scheduled to meet with Team Thailand at the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington D.C. to exchange view on ways to foster and strengthen Thai-US cooperation.
In Los Angeles, Foreign Minister Surapong and the representative from the Ministry of Interior will preside over the pre-launching ceremony of the issuing of Thai Identity Cards for overseas Thais. He will also meet with the Thai community to learn about their problems and concerns, so as to coordinate with relevant US authorities. At the same time, he will take this opportunity to explain to them regarding the current Thai policy towards overseas Thai communities, as well as update them on the Government’s projects and services designed specially for overseas Thai citizens.
