On 11-13 December 2007, Honourable Akwasi Osei-Adjei, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development of the Republic of Ghana, Ambassador Jimmy Aggrey-Oreleans, Special Coordinator for UNCTAD XII as the representative of the Minister of Trade, Industry, Private Sector Development and Presidential Special Initiatives of the Republic of Ghana, and their delegation paid an official visit to Thailand as guests of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. The purposes of their visit are to learn from the experience of Thailand on the organization of international conferences, the logistical arrangement and the substantive preparations for the UNCTAD X which was held during 12 — 19 February 2000 in Bangkok in order to prepare for the UNCTAD XII on 20 — 25 April 2008 in Accra, the Republic of Ghana. The Ghanian delegation was also briefed by the representatives from the Immigration Bureau and the Airports Authority of Thailand Plc. Co., Ltd. At Suvarnabhumi Airport on immigration procedure and airport’s facilitations arranged for delegations attending international meetings in Thailand.
On 12 December 2007, the Ghanian delegation called on H.E. Dr. Manaspas Xuto, Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to discuss bilateral relations between Thailand and Ghana and the preparation of UNCTAD XII. The delegation attended a briefing session on Thailand’s experience in hosting the UNCTAD X. Former ambassador and officials involved in the organization of UNCTAD X were invited to give briefings. Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs also hosted a luncheon in honour of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and NEPAD of the Republic of Ghana. In the afternoon, Special Coordinator for UNCTAD XII of the Republic of Ghana met Dr. Sorajak Kasemsuvan, Executive Director of the International Institute for Trade and Development (ITD), to exchange views on capacity-building cooperation between ITD and Ghana and the African region.
On 13 December 2007, the Ghanian delegation called on Dr. Chirayu Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, Chairman of the Sufficiency Economy Movement Subcommittee, to exchange views on the sufficiency economy philosophy and its application in developing countries. Then the delegation visited the Queen Sirikit Convention Centre, the venue for UNCTAD X in 2000.
