On 28 February 2008, Ms. Latha Reddy, Indian Ambassador to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Noppadon Pattama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to congratulate on the occasion of the latter’s assumption of office and to express her appreciation for the cordial relations between the two countries, particularly with regard to the visits of the Royal Family to India, the exchange of visits between high-ranking officials of both governments and the organization of the Joint Committee Meetings between the two countries.
On this occasion, both sides exchanged views on important matters to deepen the relations between the two countries, including an upcoming official visit of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to India in March 2008, activities jointly organized to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2007, bilateral cooperative projects on trade, investment, education and culture, the 2009 Joint Committee Meeting between the two countries to be hosted by the Indian side, as well as ways and means for negotiation to conclude the Free Trade Agreement between Thailand and India and to pursue cooperation on information technology of the two countries and on India’s support for Thai students to study in India.
The Indian Ambassador also expressed her congratulations to Foreign Minister Noppadon on the upcoming chairmanship of ASEAN that Thailand will assume in July 2008 and on the ASEAN Summit to be hosted in Bangkok this December. She also expected the Indian Prime Minister to participate in the Meeting as one of ASEAN dialogue countries.
