On 27 February 2008, Mr. Oscar Motswagae, Ambassador of the Republic of Botswana to Thailand, Residence in Tokyo, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Noppadon Pattama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to congratulate the latter on the new government and his assumption of office. In this connection, Ambassador Motswagae expressed his full confidence in the capability of Foreign Minister Noppadon to protect the interest of the Thai people.
In addition, both sides exchanged their views on strengthening the relations between Thailand and Africa, particularly Botswana. The issues of their discussion include exchange of visits, appointment of honorary consuls in both countries, expansion of economic cooperation, especially a joint investment in diamond-cutting industries. Foreign Minister Noppadon and Ambassador Motswagae also discussed about scholarships offered to Botswana students by the Thai side as well as educational cooperation on HIV/AIDS prevention and the reduction of HIV/AIDS patients in which the Botswana side highly praised the success of the Thai side. Both sides agreed to pursue two pending agreements between each other, namely, Agreement between Thailand and Botswana on Exemption of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports and Agreement between Thailand and Botswana on the Avoidance of Double Taxation.
