Bangkok--Mar 17--MFA
Excellency Minister of Health and Medical Prevention of Senegal,
Excellency Ambassador of Thailand,
Director of the National University Hospital Center of Fann,
Chairman of the Administrative Board of the Hospital Matlaboul Fawza?ni of Touba,
Director of the Hospital Matlaboul Fawza?ni of Touba,
Distinguished Participants,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is my honor and great pleasure to co-preside with Madame the Minister of Health and Medical Prevention of Senegal at this Presenting Ceremony of Two Ambulances to the National University Hospital Center of Fann and the Hospital Matlaboul Fawza?ni of Touba here today.
I would like to begin by congratulating the Government and the people of Senegal on the successful preparation of the 11th OIC Summit. The presence of State Leaders and Representatives from over 50 countries is a rare and memorable event. The fact that this is the second time that Senegal is selected as the host of this conference attests to the importance and leadership of Senegal both in Africa and the Islamic World. The preparation of a conference of such scale requires both unfaltering effort and sacrifice from all members of the society, directly or indirectly involved. Thus, its success does not only indicate an able leadership but also a societal willingness to cooperate and work together in unity, the two undeniable keys to sustainable development. This Summit also provides me with the opportunity to co-preside over with you, Madame the Minister of Health and Medical Prevention, this ceremony to further enhance cooperation between our two beloved countries.
To achieve this common goal, Thailand recognizes the importance of knowledge sharing and the need, particularly among developing countries, to learn from successes as well as failures of each other in order to better cope with the rising challenges of today rapidly globalizing world. Throughout our path of development, Thailand, like Senegal, attaches great importance to the improvement of public health to fight poverty, crimes, pandemics, malnutrition, or the lack of clean water which are either directly or indirectly caused by or resulted from the deficiency of health care and public sanitary.
The presentation of the two ambulances to our Senegalese friends today is another symbolic step of such effort. It is our pleasure and pride to see that soon these two ambulances will join their predecessor, formerly presented to the Hospital of Aristide le Dantec in 2005, on the roads of Dakar and Touba as well as everywhere their humanitarian missions may require their services.
Apart from this project, I am pleased to share with you various other projects that Thailand has worked closely with the Senegalese Authorities in the areas of public health. To name but a few are:-
- The Mobile Medical Unit Project which has been initiated since 2005 to provide free medical treatments to over 1600 people throughout Senegal,
- The Transfer of Technology on the Anti-Malaria Drug to the experts on Bio-Chemistry at the Aristide le Dantec,
- The “Free Medical Care Day” in Thies, from which almost a thousand people were benefited,
- The Presentation of a “Cyscope” which is an ultra modern microscope, along with 10,000 Malaria Test Kits to the First Lady of Senegal for the use of the Association Education Sant?,
- The Presentation of Medical Equipments to the Regional Hospital Center of Ziguinchor, and
- The Presentation of Water Filter Systems to needed hospitals and schools.
The list can, and will, go on and on. H.E. the Ambassador of Thailand and the Royal Thai Embassy has been doing their utmost to make sure of that.
In addition, each year Thailand has the honor to host training sessions and study visits on numerous fields including public health; all of which are carried out in view of strategic partnership for sustainable development between our two countries. In fact, 3 months from now, between 16 June — 11 July 2008, three doctors from Senegal will participate in the “Malaria Prevention and Control” training session in Thailand.
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of the Royal Thai Government, I have the honor to reaffirm the Government of the Republic of Senegal and the Senegalese people of our unwavering determination to work with you, share and support you, for the betterment of public health of our friends and peers in Senegal.
I wish to conclude by expressing my sincere encouragement for your continuous effort in enhancing good health and well-being of the Senegalese people. Allow me, Excellency, to present you with the Letter of Handing Over of the Two Ambulances.
Thank you for your attention.
