On 12 March 2008, Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs presented an ambulance to Paksong Hospital, Champasak Province at Khonephapheng Resort during the 2nd Senior Official Meeting between Thailand and Lao PDR. Mr. Vikid Keobuapa, Deputy Chief of Paksong District received the ambulance on behalf of the hospital. Dignitaries from both sides in the ceremony included H.E. Mr. Bounkerd Sangsomsak, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lao PDR, Mr. Wiboon Khusakul, Ambassador of Thailand to Lao PDR and Mr. Apichart Phetcharatana, Consul-General of Thailand in Savannakhet. The ambulance was provided to the Royal Thai Embassy by Aek Udon Hospital in Udon Thani province.
Paksong District is about 40 kilometres from Pakse District, which is the largest district of Champasak Province. The ambulance will facilitate emergency patients of Paksong that require medical treatment in larger hospitals. It also demonstrates cooperation between government and private sectors in providing assistance for development.
