On 24 March 2008, the Executive Director of the Thailand-United States Education Foundation (TUSEF - Fulbright), Ms.Porntip Kanjananiyot, accompanied Mr. Sakol Suethanaprnkul, recipient of the Fulbright’s 175th Thai-U.S. Friendship Award, to pay a courtesy call on Dr. Manaspas Xuto, Chair of the Thailand-U.S. Educational Foundation Board of Directors, at the Foreign Ministry. Dr. Manaspas advised Mr. Sakol about the appropriate role of a Fulbright scholar in contributing to the relationship between Thailand and the US.
Mr. Sakol graduated with a Bachelor’s degree (1st Class Honors, Gold Medal), from the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University, will be studying for a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics at the University of Hawaii in August 2008. As a Fulbright scholar, Mr. Sakol will be a “Fulbright Ambassador” in strengthening Thai-U.S. relations by giving lectures at various institutions and organizations in the two countries.
To celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Thai-U.S. relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the TUSEF have jointly organized various activities, particularly the granting of a “Fulbright 175th Thai-U.S. Friendship Award” to signify the role of the Fulbright Foundation for more than 60 years in enhancing the mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries through academic and cultural exchanges.
