Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand who is also the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador made a donation of US$ 7,355.63 (233,100 Baht) to three Vietnamese primary and secondary schools, as part of her contribution to the project on “Improving the Quality of Life of Children and Youth in the Asia and Pacific”, which is the collaboration between the Office of HRH Princess Sirindhorn’s Project and the UNESCO.
On 31 March 2008, H.E. Mr. Kittiphong na Ranong, Ambassador of Thailand to Vietnam, presented the donation to the Secretary General of Vietnamese National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who is the representative of three primary and secondary schools in Viet Nam, namely Ninh My Primary School in Ninh Binh Province, Cao Son Lower Secondary School in Hoa Binh Province, and Hung Thang Primary & Secondary School in Quang Ninh Province.
These three schools were selected by the UNESCO as the pilot sites to implement HRH Princess Sirindhorn’s “Total School Development” educational approach aimed at improving food, nutrition, health and hygiene conditions for the students. This financial contribution will be used to help support the schools’ activities in 2008, including implementing student health improvement programme, planting mushroom, raising pig, setting up solar energy equipment, setting up water system, and buying kitchen utensils.
In 2007, HRH Princess Sirindhorn donated money, kitchen utensils, and vegetable seeds worth approx. US$ 36,500 to the said three schools.
